APPRECIATION:

ON behalf of the Government of Mali and the European Union,
Co-chairs with the African Union of the recently concluded 4th International Conference on Avian Influenza in Bamako,
Mali (6-8 Dec 2006), I would like to acknowledge with thanks the various actors and their unfeigned efforts towards a successful Bamako 2006 conference. It is our conviction that the conference has taken the fight against avian and pandemic human influenza to a new height. The outcomes of the Technical, Ministerial and donor meetings are a testimony to the resolute commitment to combat the disease.

We recognise that we would not have achieved much without our various technical, political and financial partners who spared no effort to ensure the success of the meeting. The commitment of delegates from around the world to attend the meeting given the short preparatory period for arranging the travels deserves an honourable mention.

Finally, our appreciations go to the members of the Conference Organising Committee who worked tirelessly behind the scene to attain such a good conference

IBAR MEETS WITH PARTNERS

The avian influenza conference held in Bamako  from 6th – 8th Dec presented a good opportunity for IBAR to meet with several of its key partners.

Despite the heavy schedule for both delegate partners and the AU-IBAR directorate, some side meetings were able to be squeezed into the breaks during the conference.

These meetings were attended by the AU Commissioner Mrs. Bience Gawanas, Director IBAR Dr Modibo Traoré and the Senior Policy officer (Livestock & Fisheries) Dr Hameed Nuru.

Issues discussed include the current status of the partnership programs/projects, Avian Influenza strategies and future possibilities where partnership ties can be further strengthened. Partnerships play a vital role in AU-IBAR and appreciation is extended to all current and potential partners.
